Alright, so here’s the deal—I used Reddit like a lot of us do. I posted some stuff, left a bunch of comments (some smart, some… not so much), and one day I realized:
“I kinda want all of this gone.”
If you’re feeling the same—maybe you overshared, maybe you’re just cleaning house—then keep reading. I’m gonna walk you through exactly how I deleted my Reddit history.
First, What Is “Reddit History”?
When people say “Reddit history,” they mean everything you’ve done on Reddit:
What I Had | What It Was |
---|---|
Posts | Stuff I posted to subreddits |
Comments | My replies on people’s posts |
Search History | Whatever I searched for |
Upvotes/Downvotes | What I liked/disliked |
Visited Communities | Subreddits I browsed |
It all adds up. If you’re trying to disappear from Reddit or just clean up your profile, you need to hit each of these.
Before I Started: A Few Things I Learned
Let me just say upfront, Reddit doesn’t make this easy. There’s no “delete everything” button.
Here’s what I figured out:
- I had to delete my posts and comments one at a time, unless I used special tools.
- Even if I deleted something, it might still show up on Google for a while.
- And if someone already screenshot it? Welp. Nothing I can do.
Still, I wanted to do it. So here’s how I did it step-by-step.
METHOD 1: How I Deleted Stuff Manually
If you’ve only posted a little, this method works fine. It’s just slow.
Step-by-Step (What I Did):
1. Logged into Reddit
I went to reddit.com and made sure I was signed in.
2. Went to My Profile
Clicked my avatar in the top-right → then clicked “Profile”
3. Clicked “Posts” and “Comments”
This showed me everything I’d ever shared.
4. Deleted Them One by One
For each post or comment:
- I clicked the
•••
button - Chose “Delete”
- Hit confirm
It’s permanent. Reddit doesn’t let you undo this.
METHOD 2: I Used a Tool to Nuke It All Faster
I had too many posts to do it manually, so I used a free tool. So much easier.
I Used a Browser Extension
Here are the ones I tried:
Tool Name | What It Did for Me | Browser |
---|---|---|
Power Delete Suite | Let me pick exactly what to delete (by time, upvotes, subreddit, etc.) | Chrome & Firefox |
Nuke Reddit History | Deleted everything super fast | Chrome |
Shreddit | Overwrites and deletes everything for privacy nerds | For tech-savvy users |
🔧 These tools work best on old Reddit (not the new redesign). I switched to it by going to:
https://old.reddit.com
My Pro Tip: Edit First, Then Delete
Here’s something I learned the hard way:
Sometimes Reddit messes up deletions. So, I started editing the post or comment first—just replacing it with ...
or deleted
—then deleting it.
That way, if Reddit glitched or saved a copy somewhere, my info was still wiped out.
I Also Cleared Search History on My Phone
Reddit loves saving what you search for—especially on the mobile app. Here’s how I wiped that too.
On My Phone:
- Opened Reddit
- Tapped the search bar
- Deleted each search manually by tapping the “X”
If you want to clear everything at once:
- Tap your avatar → Settings
- Scroll down to “Clear local history”
- Tap it. Done.
Then I Deleted My Whole Reddit Account (Optional)
Once I cleaned everything up, I decided to just peace out completely.
But here’s the catch: Reddit doesn’t delete your posts when you delete your account. That’s why I cleaned up first, then left.
How I Deactivated My Account:
- Logged in
- Went to Settings
- Scrolled to the bottom
- Clicked “Deactivate Account”
- Confirmed it
Reminder: Once you do this, there’s no going back. Your username is gone forever.
My Quick Recap Table
What I Wanted | What I Did | What I Used |
---|---|---|
Delete a few posts | Manually deleted them | Reddit website |
Delete tons of stuff | Used automation tools | Power Delete Suite |
Clear search history | Used Reddit app settings | Reddit app |
Leave Reddit completely | Deactivated account | Reddit settings |
My Takeaways (Learn From My Mistakes)
- Use Reddit’s old version if you want full control
- Don’t post stuff unless you’re cool with the whole world seeing it
- Use Incognito Mode if you’re just browsing and don’t want a trail
- Screenshots are forever. If it’s sensitive, don’t post it—period

Final Thoughts
Deleting your Reddit history takes a little work, but it’s worth it if you want a clean slate—or just want to stop random people digging up your past.
I did it because I wanted a fresh start.
And now? I feel lighter. Like I finally threw out a bunch of old digital junk I didn’t need anymore.
You can do the same.
Just take it one post, one comment, one step at a time.
