How I Comment Anonymously on Facebook

Hey—so you wanna say something on Facebook without anyone knowing it’s you?

Yeah, I’ve been there too. Whether it’s something private, embarrassing, or you just don’t want your aunt or your classmates seeing it, sometimes you just wanna be invisible for a second.

Here’s exactly how I’ve done it. It’s not perfect, but it works if you know what you’re doing.

TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read)

Here’s the quick version:

What You Can DoHow
Post anonymously in groupsJoin group → Toggle anonymous post
Comment anonymously on public stuffMake a fake Facebook account
Be safe and smartNo real info, no hate, no drama

First Things First: Facebook Is Not Built for Anonymity

Let me be real with you—Facebook isn’t TikTok or Reddit.
It’s made for people using their real names and real faces. That’s the whole point of it.

But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck. You just have to get a little clever.

What I Mean By “Anonymous” on Facebook

When I say “anonymous,” I don’t mean Facebook completely forgets who you are.

I mean other regular people (your friends, strangers, your nosy cousin) can’t tell it’s you who wrote something. That’s good enough for most situations.

I’ve found two ways that actually work:

What I DoCan People See My Name?Easy?Allowed?
🧑‍🚀 Use a fake Facebook account❌ No✅ Yep⚠️ Not really
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Use anonymous posting in a group❌ No✅ Super easy✅ Yes, Facebook allows this

How I Post Anonymously in a Facebook Group

This is the easiest and safest way I’ve found.

Some Facebook groups let you post anonymously. Like, you write a comment or a full post, and instead of showing your name, it just says something like:

“Posted by Group Member”

Only the group admins (the people who run the group) can see your name. Everyone else? They just see your words.

How I Do It (Step-by-Step)

  1. I join a group that allows anonymous posting.
(Not all of them do—so I look in support or advice groups.)
  2. I tap “Write something…” like I’m making a normal post.
  3. I click or tap the option that says “Post anonymously.”
  4. I type my message.
  5. I hit Post, and boom—my name is hidden!

Here’s What That Looks Like (in my head):

[Facebook Group]
|
|--> "Write Post"
|
|--> Turn ON "Post Anonymously"
|
|--> Type what you want
|
|--> Posted as: Group Member

Using a Fake Account (I’ve Done This Too… Carefully)

Yeah okay—sometimes I needed more freedom.
Like when I wanted to comment on a public post or a page, and anonymous posting wasn’t an option.

So… I made a fake Facebook account.

Is it allowed? Not really.
But lots of people do it anyway.

How I Made a Fake Account (Without Getting Caught)

  1. I logged out of my real Facebook.
  2. I went to facebook.com and hit “Create New Account.”
  3. I used a totally different name. Something normal-sounding but not me.
  4. I created a new email address (never use the one you use for your real account).
  5. I skipped adding a phone number.
  6. I uploaded a random profile picture (no face, no pets, no personal stuff).
  7. I joined a few groups or followed some pages and started commenting.

⚠️ Heads up from me:

  • I never used it to bully people. That’ll get you banned, fast.
  • I didn’t log in to both my real and fake accounts at the same time. Facebook notices.
  • I used it smart, not shady.

Stuff You Can’t Do Anonymously

Just so you know—you can’t be anonymous everywhere on Facebook.

Thing You Wanna DoCan You Be Anonymous?
Comment on a friend’s post❌ Nope
Comment on a public video❌ Nope
Leave a review on a page❌ Nope
Use Anonymous Mode in Messenger❌ Doesn’t exist

So yeah, the only options are:

  • Groups with anonymous posting
  • Fake account (used wisely)

Quick Look at Your Options

OptionEasy to Use?Safe to Use?Actually Hidden?
Anonymous group posting✅ Super easy✅ Yes✅ Mostly
Fake Facebook account⚠️ A little shady❌ Risky✅ If done right

Little Tricks I Use to Stay Hidden

If I’m going all-in on privacy, I do these:

  • Never use my real birthday or real hometown.
  • I avoid logging in from the same place as my real account.
  • I use a different browser or even a VPN (like a mask for your internet).
  • I don’t tell people I know about the fake account—ever.

Why I Even Bothered

There are some things I wanted to talk about—mental health stuff, questions about life, embarrassing situations—that I just didn’t want my whole school or family knowing.

I’ve used anonymous commenting to:

  • Ask for advice about depression (yeah, we go there).
  • Share a story I wasn’t ready to attach my name to.
  • Speak my truth without dealing with drama.

It’s not about hiding.
It’s about feeling safe enough to be honest.

Still Got Questions?

If you’re stuck, just message me or drop a comment (ironically or not 😉).
I’ve probably done whatever you’re trying to figure out.
