Okay, real talk — I remember the first time someone told me they shared my post on Instagram. I was like,
“Cool, but… how do I see that?”
I clicked around for 20 minutes like a confused squirrel, trying to find some secret list that shows who shared it.
Guess what?
Instagram doesn’t let you see who shared it.
Yeah. I know. Kinda rude.
But — you can see how many people shared your post, where they shared it, and which posts are getting the most attention. You just need to know where to look.
So I put together this little guide to show you exactly how I figured it out — step-by-step.
Let’s go.
TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read)
- You can’t see who shared your post.
- But you can see how many people shared it.
- You just need a Professional account.
- Check insights under each post or your full profile.
First Off: Can You Actually See Who Shared Your Post?
The honest answer?
Nope.
Instagram doesn’t tell you who shared your post — not directly.
But…
👀 You can see how many people shared it, and that’s still super helpful.
Step 1: I Switched to a Professional Account (And You Should Too)
If you’re using a regular personal Instagram account, you can’t see shares, reach, saves, or any of the cool insights.
So the first thing I did was switch to a Professional Account.
It’s free. It takes like 60 seconds.
Here’s how I did it:
- Opened Instagram and went to my Profile.
- Tapped the ☰ menu (top right corner).
- Went to Settings and privacy.
- Tapped Account type and tools.
- Hit Switch to professional account.
- Picked Creator (but Business works too).
- Followed the steps and boom — done.
Heads up: You won’t lose anything. All your posts and followers stay the same.
Step 2: I Posted Something (Or You Can Use an Old Post)
After I switched my account, I either posted something new or used an old post I already had up. Doesn’t matter — as long as it’s live.
Step 3: Here’s How I Check Who Shared My Post (Well, How Many People Did)
Once your post is live:
- Go to that post on your profile.
- Tap “View Insights” right below it.
- Look for this icon: 🔁
That number shows how many times your post was shared.
Here’s what it usually looks like:
Post Insights:
🔖 Saves: 23
📈 Reach: 2,645
🔁 = People who shared your post (usually to their Stories or sent in a DM)
What About Instagram Stories? Can I See Who Shared It There?
Depends.
- If someone tags you in a Story, you’ll get a notification. Easy.
- But if someone just reshared your post to their Story and didn’t tag you, Instagram won’t show their name. Just the number of shares.
Bonus Trick: How I Check My Most Shared Posts
Wanna know which of your posts are getting shared the most?
Here’s what I do:
- Go to my profile.
- Tap the ☰ menu.
- Tap Insights.
- Tap Content you’ve shared.
- Tap Posts, then sort by Shares.
That gives you a nice overview of what’s actually working.
Quick Table Recap
🔍 Feature | ✅ Available? | 📱 How I Access It |
---|---|---|
See how many people shared | ✅ Yes | Post > View Insights |
See exactly who shared | ❌ Nope | Not available (yet) |
See who tagged me in Stories | ✅ Yes | Notifications > Mentions |
See most shared posts | ✅ Yup | Menu > Insights > Content You Shared |
What I Learned About Getting More Shares
After trying all this out, I realized a few things help boost shares big time:
- ✅ Posting tips, advice, or helpful info
- 😂 Funny memes or relatable quotes
- 🎯 Content that hits emotions or real-life moments
- 📣 Telling people to “share if this helped” (it actually works)
- 📸 High-quality visuals that make people want to repost
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I wish Instagram just told us who shared our stuff. But for now, we work with what we’ve got.
Seeing those shares still gives you a clue that people care about what you post. And when you know what’s working, you can do more of it.
So — try this out. Switch your account. Look at those insights. Learn what people love. And keep creating.
And hey — if this helped you out, maybe share this post.
(Yeah, I said it. 😎)
Still figuring things out, but helping you do the same.
